Carcass — Embroidered Canvas Patch
Formed in Liverpool, England in 1985, Carcass are widely regarded as pioneers of both goregrind and melodic death metal — two genres they helped invent and then transcend. Their early albums Reek of Putrefaction (1988) and Symphonies of Sickness (1989) established them as the most extreme and medically literate band in the underground, while Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious (1991) pushed the technical and compositional bar to new heights. Heartwork (1993) is considered one of the greatest metal albums ever recorded — a blueprint for melodic death metal that countless bands have spent decades trying to replicate. After a long hiatus, Carcass returned with Surgical Steel (2013) and Torn Arteries (2021), proving their craft had only sharpened with time. Few bands in extreme music carry a legacy this deep.
